Learning to mix color is one of the basic skills in painting. I recommend buying a commercial color wheel and also making your own with your own paint colors. In the beginning make a "Color Swatch" for each painting and stick to that color scheme in your painting. This will train your eye and your painting brain and prevent the occurence of "crazy carnival colors" that happens often to us as expressive painters!
